What You Might Notice:

Motivation difficulties: “I know what I need to do but struggle to find the motivation to do it.”

Getting started on tasks: “It feels so hard to start my work projects. I find endless ways to distract myself from starting projects but once I get started, it usually isn’t as bad as I thought it would be.”

Scheduling: “I think I would benefit from some type of routine or schedule. I can make a schedule and keep it for short periods of time, but then I inevitability fall back into my old patterns. Life feels scattered.”

Distraction: “I feel like my attention is often pulled away from the things I need to do. I find myself looking at my phone, watching YouTube videos, or watching TV instead of finishing chores at home or tasks for work.”

Communication: “I struggle with interrupting. I’m scared that I will lose my thought if I don’t get it out.”

Difficulty managing strong emotions: “I often shut down or lose my temper when I experience strong emotions. It causes problems in my relationships and makes me feel terrible. I wish I could learn how to not let my strong feelings get the best of me.”

How We Find Relief:

“Executive Skills” coaching

ADHD often presents challenges related to organization, decision making, planning, and management of information.  The ability to do these things is often referred to as executive functioning or “executive skills.”

Through our work together, you can strengthen the following executive skills:

  • Managing strong emotions in order to meet life demands

  • Planning/prioritizing

  • Organization

  • Time management

  • Metacognition (i.e., taking a step back and looking at the “big picture” in order to gain perspective)

  • Thinking about potential consequences prior to acting

  • Working toward long-term goals even when it’s uncomfortable or boring
